How to Prepare Your Hot Tub for Removal

The honest answer: not much. We do most of the prep ourselves. But if you want to save a little money or shave time off the appointment, here's what helps.

Things you don't need to do

  • You don't need to drain the tub. We bring a pump.
  • You don't need to disconnect the wiring. We disconnect at the unit.
  • You don't need to cut anything apart. We bring the saws.
  • You don't need to clear the yard ahead of time. We work around what's there.

Things that genuinely help

  • Drain the tub if you can. Saves us 20–30 minutes of pump time. Worth a small discount on most jobs.
  • Move patio furniture and grills out of the path. Anything between the tub and our trailer.
  • Unlock side gates. Or be home to do it when we arrive.
  • Take photos and send them with your quote request. Not pre-job prep exactly, but the better the photos, the more accurate the quote.
  • Mention any access surprises up front. Stairs, narrow gates, dogs, anything.

What about the electrical?

We disconnect the tub from its power supply at the unit. We do not cap or rewire anything at the breaker — that's a job for a licensed electrician. If you're putting in a new tub, the electrician handling that will take care of it. If you're done with hot tubs forever, you'll want to call a separate electrician to cap the dedicated 240V circuit at the panel.

What if the tub is full of nasty water?

Doesn't matter. We've drained tubs full of mosquito larvae, frozen ice, leaves, and worse. We're not particular about the condition. The only time it matters is if the water needs to go somewhere specific — large volumes get pumped to a sewer cleanout if you have one, otherwise into the yard if it's safe to do so.

Anything else?
